Abstract

Blogs one of the modern tools and means that help individuals to publish information on the Internet without prior knowledge of any programming language, or in-depth technical background. Many blogging software have emerged recently; which helped to its wide spread. The aim of the present study is to address the open source blogging software available on the Internet, identifying it, highlighting its advantages and disadvantages, as well as its applications, and their use in the libraries and information science filed. In addition, providing a range of elements and technical standards to show how they are selected.These elements include, its infrastructure the languages used in writing them, as well as operating systems that are compatible with it, databases that support it, the servers on which they depend, security settings, add-ons available, and other technical specifications. A comparison has been made between them in accordance with these standards and elements; in order to identify the best software in terms of potential uses in the present day. Twenty-two (22) blogging software were studied and analyzed, according to the checklist prepared based on previous elements for this purpose.
